This year I decided to make some salt dough ornaments. The dough is made using salt, flour, and water. There are many recipes online, there is one HERE or just do a google search for salt dough ornaments. I used food coloring to color the dough. I would recommend mixing the dough with food coloring in a zip lock bag to start, it is a little messy. Once the color was pretty mixed in the dough I then moved the dough to my Kitchen Aid mixer to mix the color in completely. I then rolled out the dough and cut out shapes using cookie cutters. Placed them on a cookie sheet and used a tooth pick to make a hole for hanging. This is the first batch.
Here is the second batch. I placed both batches in the oven at 200 degrees and turned the ornaments every half hour. I did that for a few hours then put them on top of the refrigerator for a day to make sure they were completely dry.
It was a lot of fun to make them and a simple fun activity to do with kids.
You can personalize the back with a permanent marker.
There is still time if you want to make some for the holidays.
